Sunset Farms is a multi-generational sustainable family farm located in Southern Alamance County. Gary and Wanda Murray began the direct marketing of produce in the Chapel Hill area in the early 1980′s. Since that time their operation has grown to provide a wide array of seasonal vegetables and fruits, beef and pastured poultry. Chris, Gary and Wanda’s son, recently returned to the farm with his wife Jamie Brie to partner with Gary in the management of day to day operations. They are proud to be called farmers and to grow the finest foods they can for their customers.
The Murray family considers it a privilege to be stewards of creation, and therefore they strive to farm in a way that is environmentally sustainable. They employ cover crops to add organic matter to the soils and prevent erosion. They utilize a crop and livestock rotation sequence that builds soil fertility naturally. They use few, if any sprays to control insects, instead relying on natural insect predators and crop rotation. All of these practices enhance the farm for the Murray family and future generations.
